North Wales; home to rivers, waterfalls, mountains and… a friendly red dragon!
Draig is a Welsh recruitment agency specialising in all things education. They had a very specific idea in mind for their visual identity - a dragon mascot to bring the warmth. Combining classic Welsh elements with animation and cartoon inspired illustrations, Draig was born.
Process
Breaking down the project
The initial ideas for Draig started with mood boarding and researching the history of Wales and its famous red dragon. We worked together with the founder to present our initial ideas which included colour suggestions as well as early sketch concepts.
Bringing Draig to life
Following on from the presentation and client feedback, I began to build on the initial drawings. I created standard poses like sitting, flying and standing. I also illustrated some supporting elements such as a castle, dragon egg, speech bubbles and more. Once the client was happy, I moved on to animating Draig hatching which was used as a website preloader and promo piece for the business launch.
Result
Draig was an absolute hit, and the schools/educators in Wales loved the fun take on the classic Welsh dragon. The founder has had real success in local schools giving presentations and career advice to students with the support of Draig!. Their agency has been a standout at career and recruitment fairs across the country, and is seeing good success with their business.
